The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog - Mo Willems

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 by professorbobby&co | 0 comments
Well, the title of the book is a pretty accurate synopsis of what the book is about. But of course, how can I possibly leave you all unsatisfied with such a laconic review? The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog is an adorable, albeit simply illustrated book. Nothing of grandeur like profligate sparkly stuff, complicated pop ups or extravagant characters. No, no! This ill-tempered pigeon needs none of that! A few rough lines here, a circle there and voila! A handsome yet modest Mr Pigeon is born!

In this book, Mr Pigeon stumbles upon a hotdog. He reveres his find - "Oooooh! A hot dog! Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!" - until an inquisitive duckling - "scooty scoot scoot!" - comes along to pester him with hotdog related questions. Oh, how livid Pigeon becomes! How dare that little duckling interrupt him while he's admiring his precious hot dog? Also, why won't that little duckling go away and leave Pigeon alone? How on earth will Pigeon resolve his problem? What a conundrum! The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog does a splendid job in its depiction of frustration on the upsurge, when one does not get their way with hotdogs. This sparsely decorated book and its characters (well, it only has Pigeon and Duckling) is very charming on its own merit. I definitely recommend it.

This book gets 5/5 hotdogs. Yummy, yummy, yummy!!
